Addiction is the recurring compulsion or the strong impulse by any individual to indulge in any specific activity. It is mostly referred with drug addiction or alcoholic addiction.

Types of Addiction

There are a number of types of addiction that an individual can fall for. The word addiction is mostly referred to with drug addiction, alcoholic addiction, gambling addiction, compulsive overeating. The above mentioned addictions are dependant on genetic, biological or social factors.

Counseling comes from old French, and Greek in which it means to take counsel or to consult. The counselor does his counseling by the basic points.

* Listens patiently and effectively to you.

* Talks with you and sets your goals with respect to your values and culture.

* Removes your worries and untangles your thoughts and feelings.

* Helps you to get back your confidence and self-respect.

* Teaches and shows you how to control your emotions.

* Helps you to get the solutions to your problems.

* Teaches you to accept that cannot be changed.

* Helps to maintain and support your relationships.

* Helps you to get the confidence to act in the ways that are the best for you.

* Uses a variety of methods to release your mind from pressure and untangles it.

Addiction counseling does the difference after a successful recovery from addiction and ineffective treatment outcome and return to the addictive behavior. The main job of a counselor is to find out the basic reason why the victim originally turned to it which can help to prevent the abuse from happening in the future. This considerably increases of a full recovery. There are many times when a person thinks that he/she need addiction counseling even if he is not drug addict just a friend or a family member worried about the victim, their loved one. Addiction counseling can provide the much needed support and help at any stage or situation involved in the addiction.

It is very important to get an addiction counseling to recover from substance abuse because when you are struggling with any addiction, it ca be very difficult to get help. Often the most difficult step you will have is to admit having an addiction. This will help you get the necessary professional help that will help you to overcome your fears and get you confidence and self-respect back
