Decrease anxiety levels
Ever wondered why you feel shy despite trying every trick in the book to prevent it? You can just be anxious.
Anxiety and shyness
The answer seems simple, but it is the truth. Many a times we try to tackle our shyness the wrong way. Shyness is not a sudden phenomenon. It is the result of anxious thoughts supported fully by your imagination. Many a times anxious thoughts prevent you from perceiving the reality. Anxiety and shyness results in a vicious cycle where anxiety causes shyness and shyness in turn leads to further anxiety. Thus, by attacking anxiety you will be able to control your shyness.
Decreasing anxiety levels
You can bring down your anxiety levels by first controlling your thought processes. That does not mean that you avoid thinking, you just redirect your thoughts in other ways. It is also necessary to think about positive events. Anxiety levels can be decreased with the help of breathing exercises and regular practice of Yoga. A brusque thirty minutes walk each morning is also beneficial. There is a popular notion that if you talk to yourself firmly against feeling anxious you can relax. This may or may not work for you. Some find this method effective. However a vast majority of people believe that it actually increase their anxiety. This makes sense as we start pressurizing ourselves to achieve control. Instead, the best way to tackle anxiety is to accept the fact that you are anxious and then try and prevent the symptoms instead.
Once you have gained control over your heartbeat and have stopped trembling, you will realize that the actual anxiety you feel is very insignificant. Shyness involves anxiety about being criticized. In such situations, it is best to remember all the compliments you had received in the past no matter how small they are rather than brood over criticism you have not yet faced. You can also engage in some activity or hobby to distract yourself before a major social event. However, if you feel that nothing is working, it is time to seek professional help.
