Men and depression

Depression affects men as much as it affects women. Due to social stigma, few men are willing to report it and get the necessary treatment. Since the number of women seeking medical treatment for depression outranges the number of men, depression in men is left unnoticed. It is said that about 6 million men in America suffer from depression every year. There are numerous reasons for this. Some of these include a failed relationship or marriage or even work pressures. At times the reason for the depression is unknown.

Reflexology for Stress Management

Many people are surprised to learn that the day to day happenings, the thoughts and feelings that they have that cause tension and anxiety are not actually stress, they are stressors. Stress is actually the reaction to these stressors, and in itself is not harmful, in fact it is something that the body does naturally when there is a threat. During this time there are over a thousand chemical reactions taking place in the body being controlled by the nervous system and disrupting homeostasis. After the threat has passed whether it was real or imagined the body should return to its normal state. Problems arise when there are too many stressors at one time or when stress is prolonged, then it results in negative symptoms. The other thing about stress is that some of the very problems that result from stress can also lead to stress. There are many signs and symptoms of stress, physical, mental or emotional and even behavioral. Symptoms may vary from person to person as stress affects each person a little differently. By taking a natural approach to stress management, the negative effects can be lessened and resulting illness possibly prevented.

Self Care with Suds

A nice bath is just the place to take care of your ‘self.’ You can wash the dust of the day off along with the stress of the day, unwind and relax.

Some people find that they enjoy homemade bubble bath creations out of special favorite oils and / or soaps better than store bought soap solutions. This way not only the body is soothed and uplifted, but the nerves and mind with soothing scents and oils.

How Rated R Movies May Affect Your Outlook on Life

Movies rated R, with their theme, language, scenes of violence, nudity, sexual content or drug abuse, may affect your outlook on life in a negative way, regardless of your political or religious convictions. If you really believe in the saying ‘hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil’, you will avoid viewing any movies that carry any obnoxious content or language, whether or not they are rated R. Just as you would shield your child from the influence of any movie that is rated R in the hope that when they grow up to be adults they lead a straight life, so should you consider minimizing the time spent watching rated R movies. Naturally, you would not permit your children to watch such movies like Pulp Fiction, Gladiator, Clockwork Orange, The Passion of the Christ, Saving Private Ryan or Schindler’s List for their graphic content, poor language, nudity and drug abuse because you probably feel that this is a bad influence on your child. Why then do we as adults subject ourselves to such negative influences?

Self Improvement with Self Fitness Programs

In this world of outward appearance being so important, when you get fit, you will naturally feel better about yourself. In feeling better, you will portray an outward glow that will draw others to you and they will be helpless but to feel happy after they’ve been in your presence.

It’s easy to map goals with goal setting forms

A good way to set your goals is with the help of goal setting forms. These forms help you to break your goals into sub-goals, set time frames, identify obstacles and keep track of your progress. They work as excellent reminder sheets, reminding you of the steps that you need to take to achieve your goals.

You can use these forms to simultaneously list your goals in areas like career, health, finance, family etc. Then, when the long-term goals have been defined, you can break them down to short-term goals. After this, you need to write down the actions or steps that you need to take to achieve these goals.

The History of Self Improvement

There is a fine connection between self-improvement and self-help. When one thinks of self-help books for instance, they think of books that help you do a task by yourself (without professional help). The idea behind self-help is to improve the cost of getting a task done, or improving on the time it takes to accomplish the task (the wait for professionals can be long). Therefore the history of self-help gave birth to the expanded version of the self-improvement craze of today. The self-help craze started with Legal self-help and was motivated by the need to save money in this area. People became interested in doing some of their own legal issues. Self-help legal publications began to pop up on bookshelves concerning routine legal matters like filing of wills, domestic processes and recording property deeds.

How to set goals that can be achieved

The first thing that you need to address while setting goals is how to set goals. You can’t obviously set ridiculously easy goals. This will defeat the entire purpose of the goal-setting exercise. Similarly, you can’t set unrealistic goals. So, what do you do?

You need to start with small goals, or sub-goals. If you have never exercised before then don’t chalk out a three-hour gym regime. Instead walk around the neighborhood for about 20 minutes every day. If 20 minutes at a stretch is too much two spurts of 10 minutes will do.
