Different Ways To Help A Person In Grief
Grief is a state of misery, intense sorrow or plight caused by the loss of a loved one. Different people react differently to the loss. Some get crazy some get extreme numb, irritable, angry some cry and remorse and some even go in a state of shock. There is no defined pattern a person reacts to a loss. A person comes out of a grief through a healing process which is not linear but is cyclic. Meditation, aromatherapy and counseling help a lot too. Counseling basically is a means to let your feelings out in form of someone listening to it. This counseling can be professional or in form of a close friend to whom the person can confide into.
Listening the best heal
The best way a person in grief can be helped is by telling him "I am all ears". Listening is as good medicine as speaking is. A person in grief feels lonely and dejected. He feels that he is left with nothing in this world and that he is a loser. He even retracts himself from social gatherings, parties. He closes himself in a small shell of his own which does not have any outlet. Since it does not have any outlet the grief keeps on piling up inside. A person can help him provide a vent to those emotions. We can just sit beside them as friends as good listeners and giving them an assurance that they are not alone. Talking to them about their feelings, about the pain, about the loss and acknowledge them. Sharing our own feelings, pain and losses help them see the world in a better perspective too. We should let them feel the pain and should not try and minimize it because it takes its own time to fade away. We can act as buffers or punching bags to which they can let their feelings out without any inhibitions. A person in grief needs a companionship and concern.
Conclusion
As the time passes by the wound starts healing, the grief over the loss fades away. A person who is grieving feels lonely and looks for an anchor around. He can be helped by giving them a shoulder to rely on and an anchor to hang on. This would help them express their feelings and will thus pull them out of the sorrow and misery they have been going through.
