There are many different ways to help your budget out when it comes to buying groceries from the supermarket, such as clipping and using coupons, or searching weekend advertisements for sale items. But did you know that simply by eating healthily, you can save yourself a lot of money at the supermarket? Consider the following tips!

Limit the Purchase of Processed, Frozen or Boxed Food: You can save a great deal of money every month simply by limiting how many boxed or processed foods that you buy, and you will be eating a lot more healthily in the process! For example, buying ten pounds of fresh potatoes is actually a lot cheaper than purchasing a box of instant mashed potatoes. The ten pounds of fresh potatoes will go a lot further for a cheaper price, and you are saving calories simply by going with the fresh, natural version of the good. Fresh potatoes are much healthier than processed, dried potato flakes.

Limit the Purchase of Boxed Cereals: Most boxed cereals are sugary, which makes them terrible for you, and they do not even tend to last long, despite being fairly expensive. You will be saving a lot of money by eliminating this wasteful purchase from your shopping list. Very few boxed cereal brands are actually healthy for you, so avoid them all together and try fruit and oatmeal for breakfast instead. You may even try combining homemade granola with fresh milk, which tends to taste a great deal better, and does wonders for your health. Add other healthy elements, like nuts, raisins, seeds and fresh fruit for a different experience every day. There, now aren't you glad you gave up the sugary stuff?

Use a Crock Pot for Cooking: Our eating habits are a direct result of our personal schedules and our various time constraints. But healthy eating actually will help us to become more productive, and much happier when it comes to the long run, so why waste time making yourself feel sick and run down simply by eating poorly? If you do not already have a crock pot consider purchasing one. Crock pot cookbooks are gaining popularity, and there are hundreds of recipes out there which will allow you to throw some ingredients into the pot and let all the work happen without you. By doing all of the cooking yourself when it comes to meat and vegetables, you will actually be saving a great deal of money, because buying fresh food is always going to produce more output than if you buy the food frozen or pre-packaged. You can easily throw some vegetables and a pot roast in the crock pot before work, and you will come home to a completely cooked meal which is healthy and inexpensive to create. A single crock pot meal can feed a family several times before the food is gone. Crock pots are also stellar for soups and stews, because crock pots cook the food very slowly, which allows all of the flavors to come out of the food, making deliciously flavored concoctions with little effort. Crock pots are designed to be easy to use, and most importantly, safe, which means that you can leave one on while you go to work. Save time and money and eat healthfully by letting your crock pot do all of the cooking.

Thanks for the information on eating healthier on a decent bedget. I'll have to pick up a crock pot sometime soon!

We recently wrote an article (http://brainblogger.com/2008/06/24/how-do-we-feed-our-children/) on what is healthy to feed children at Brain Blogger (http://brainblogger.com/). How in the world do we find out what to feed our children? What's the most important factor? Is there a most important factor?

We would like to read your comments on our article. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Kelly
