Goals: The Road to Success

We're all looking for that magical road that will lead us straight to success. Unfortunately it doesn't exist - we must create it. I know, I know, that sounds like a lot of hard work. Really it doesn't seem like such a great task if you know how to go about it.

Of course the first step is to decide where you are wanting to go. Obviously! We would never plan a vacation without a destination in mind. Neither will we get very far down the road to success if we don't first take the time to decide what success really means. What exactly to do you want to do or become?

Order doesn't come from chaos (except of course, in the theory of evolution). You must have a master plan prepared to make things happen. Outline the steps you need to take to be successful.

Imagine building a Wal Mart Supercenter without a blueprint! Have you ever witness the construction of a large building? There are bulldozers, huge pipes and beams, men and machines everywhere. It looks like a chaotic anthill, but in reality is an amazing feat. In a few months time a building will stand where once was bare dirt. What was the key to the success of the structure? You got it, the blueprint.

Get out your clipboard, grab your blueprint and get started on that road! Now, don't be a little surprised if everything doesn't go just the way you had it planned. Life likes to play nasty little tricks on us, but hey! you're made of tough stuff. Stick it out, be flexible, and keep right on working away.

What? You say it's taking forever to get there? Perseverance is key to achieving goals - especially long term goals. Remember that the time you're spending is an investment in yourself. You're creating a better you, and are worth every moment of it!

There are a great many of us who hate to face long projects alone. It seems so much more fun when there are others to share with in the tough times, to encourage us in the down times, and to celebrate the good times with. Go ahead and find a partner who shares a similar goal. You'll find great reward in working together.

What's a road without mile markers? Those little signs give us an idea of how far we've come, and how far we need to go. Your road to success will need to be strewn with mile markers as well. You too need to know how far you've come and how far you need to go. If you've taken the time to properly chart your course, you'll have a list of short-term goals that lead to the ultimate goal. Celebrate each and every one of these successes along the way. You'll need them to keep track of your progress.

Wherever you're setting out for - a smaller size, a regular exercise program, remodeling your home, financial freedom, or a better relationship - be prepared for success. A postive and confident attitude are crucial to reaching the end of the road. So what if you get off the road a few times along the way! Just consider these little excursions as mini vacations. Get back on the road, and before you know it you'll be right where you've always dreamed of being.
